Revisiting 'Born This Way'
Five years later, Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' is still an absurd, abrasive achievement.

Lady Gaga, race car driver? On May 29, Mother Monster popped up at the Indy 500, to the crowd’s surprise. Turns out, she was there to help kick off the 100th running with veteran driver Mario Andretti.

Up until the last minute, Keith Urban was actually scheduled to do the honors. But as the country superstar announced that morning, he had to cancel at the last minute due to a back injury. In walks Gaga, wearing shorts and a t-shirt, taking in the scene before riding with Mario for three laps.

“She’s going to distract me quite a bit, actually,” Mario said to The Indianapolis Star. “I hope I can just look ahead while I’m driving.”

The Indy 500 must have been a much-needed break for Gaga, who has been hard at work on her fifth album. Producer RedOne says that he has worked on eight songs so far. Nile Rodgers, Elton John, Diane WarrenTame Impala‘s Kevin Parker, Mark Ronson and Bloodpop have also recorded with her.
