Adam Levine has offered to pay for Christina Grimmie‘s funeral, according to Grimmie’s brother Marcus — and after a harrowing weekend filled with senseless violence it’s a tiny reminder that not every single goddamn thing about existence in America is bleak and hopeless.

Levine was Grimmie’s coach on The Voice when she was a contestant on season six, and her brother revealed on Facebook that the Maroon 5 singer reached out to the family to help with funeral expenses following the 22-year-old’s murder. “I found out this morning that Adam Levine personally called my mother and said he will pay for her funeral and her plane flight, and I was blown away,” he wrote. In addition, a GoFundMe page set up by her manager to help the Grimmie family is nearing $150,000 as of this writing.

Grimmie was shot on June 10 during a fan meet-and-greet after a concert in Orlando. The gunman, 27-year-old Kevin James Loibl, turned the gun on himself after being tackled by Marcus and died on the scene. Grimmie died at the hospital hours later.
