Beyonce’s loss is Lady Gaga’s gain. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mother Monster is in talks to star in the long-planned remake of A Star Is Born — a role Queen Bey had signed on to play way back in 2011 with Clint Eastwood directing. The project seemed destined for development hell when they dropped out, but Bradley Cooper has since come on board to direct the movie and it looks like he has found his leading lady.

How close is the pop star to snagging the role, which both Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand played in earlier remakes? “Reports of Gaga’s involvement first surfaced when the singer was caught by paparazzi on a motorcycle ride with Cooper,” THR reports. “Gaga tested for the studio, which impressed the execs.” A Star Is Born would be the 30-year-old’s first leading role after cameos in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, Machete Kills and Muppets Most Wanted.
