Carrie Underwood Is Reworking “Somethin’ Bad” Into New ‘Sunday Night Football’ Theme

Carrie Underwood has been the Sunday Night Football theme song star since 2013, with her rendition of “Waiting All Day For Sunday Night” — itself a reimagined version of Joan Jett‘s “I Hate Myself For Loving You” — leading into each game for the NBC broadcast. But after a decade, the network is ditching that song, replacing it with Underwood’s footballified version of her 2014 Miranda Lambert duet “Somethin’ Bad,” which will be called “Oh, Sunday Night.”

The country superstar tells the AP the new version of her song starts off “a little quiet” and builds up, and there’s an added bridge to go along with the intro visuals.

Since I’m one of the few pop diehards who is also a football diehard, I feel like I can speak with authority on this: The “Waiting All Day For Sunday Night” intro, whether helmed by Faith Hill or Pink or Carrie Underwood, was unquestionably the lamest thing about SNF. So this can only be an improvement.

Revisit “Somethin’ Bad” as well as the old SNF theme below. Maybe you’ll be able to guess the new lyrics before the song premieres during next season’s first Sunday night game on September 11.
