Kanye West Will Headline A New York City Festival After All

Obviously, we have reached peak festival. But just to hammer the point home: With the announcement of The Meadows Music and Arts Festival, New York City will now have four major music festivals this year (also including Governors Ball, Panorama and The Roots Picnic). This all makes last year’s NYC turf war between the Gov Ball organizers and the Coachella organizers seem quaint.

The Meadows is from the people behind Gov Ball, and the inaugural weekend is headlined by Kanye West and The Weeknd on October 1 and 2. West was supposed to headline Day 3 of Gov Ball this month, which was rained out and led to his chaotic attempt to play a pop-up show at the modest Webster Hall, so this was worked out as sort of a make-good, according to the press release: “Founders Entertainment saw a booking for West at the new The Meadows Music and Arts Festival as a way to follow through on bringing him to New York City for his only North American festival appearance in 2016.”

The 1975, Grimes, Chance The Rapper, Kygo, Chromeo, Mac Miller, Zhu, Pusha T, Post Malone, Yeasayer, Chairlift and more round out what looks to be a pretty balanced lineup between rap, rock, EDM and indie. Also of note, Twin Shadow will be performing Prince‘s Purple Rain in full.

The Meadows will be held at Citi Field and Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens. General ticket sales start June 23 at 11 a.m. ET. Check out the full lineup poster below.
