An array of several dozen Broadway performers (including Sean Hayes, Audra McDonald, Whoopi Goldberg, Chita Rivera, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Sara Bareilles, Idina Menzel and more) came together to record a cover of Hal David and Burt Bacharach‘s 1965 hit “What The World Needs Now Is Love,” to benefit the GLBT Community Center Of Central Florida following the Orlando shooting at Pulse nightclub. The single, released this week under Broadway For Orlando, has now topped the iTunes chart, and the singers gave a powerful performance of the song last night on NBC’s Maya & Marty, with the two hosts, Maya Rudolph and Martin Short, joining in.

“What The World Needs Now Is Love” is one of David and Bacharach’s most famous compositions, and originally became a Top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 for Jackie DeShannon.
