Last night (June 26), the 2016 BET Awards paid tribute to Prince. But this wasn’t just any performance – some of the world’s biggest musicians came out to honor the late funk legend in a series of incredible performances throughout the night. The tribute kicked off with a stunning rendition of “The Beautiful Ones” by Erykah Badu, The Roots and Bilal, followed by “Take Me With U” with Stevie Wonder and Tori Kelly and “Purple Rain” by Jennifer Hudson. R&B crooner Maxwell then came out to sing “Nothing Compares To U,” while Janelle Monáe – donned in ass-less chaps– belted “Delirious,” “ Kiss,” “Pop Life,” and “I Would Die 4 U.”  The series concluded with a joyous performance by Prince protégé Sheila E, who sang “Housequake” and “Erotic City.”

This homage follows Madonna’s tribute to the late funk legend at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards just a few months prior.
