Mariah Carey wasn’t playing around during her Essence Fest debut.

Inside the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, the veteran pop diva brought out two special guests during her set. First came Jermaine Dupri for “It’s Like That,” off 2005’s The Emancipation of Mimi. Then, after Mariah did a costume change, the hip-hop Svengali (and former manager) was back on stage, this time with Da Brat, to perform 1997’s “Honey.” And Mariah explained to the crowd, of course they weren’t going to perform the original when they can perform the So So Def remix — her personal favorite version of her twelfth Hot 100 chart-topper.

“I told you we’re having a reunion over here,” she said, in between belting her verses and keeping the crowd hyped.
