At Idolator, the editors share a passion for high-quality pop. Occasionally, our tastes align. Other times, not so much. So, in the spirit of debate (and online drama), we’ve developed a recurring feature called Pop Perspective. In a nutshell, our editors dissect a particularly noteworthy pop-happening, and give it a rating out of 10.

That way you’re getting a full spectrum of views and we can all vent. (It’s cheaper than therapy!) The latest event to be dragged under the Idolator microscope is Jennifer Lopez and Lin-Manuel Miranda’s “Love Make The World Go Round,” which raises funds for Somos Orlando — a charity providing support for Pulse nightclub shooting victims and their families. It’s a great cause, but is the song up to scratch? Read our thoughts below.

Robbie Daw — 8/10

This is the type of J.Lo song I like: Worldly, inspiring and not about “the club.” “Love Make The World Go Round” is a pretty simple pop track with an instantly catchy groove, aimed at raising money for a charity benefiting those affected by last month’s shooting at Orlando’s Pulse nightclub. Snippets of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Tony acceptance sonnet are employed in such a way that the addition doesn’t feel forced. Plus, Lopez’s vocals are top notch here.

Rachel Sonis — 7/10

With its infectious, sun-kissed melody and uplifting lyrics of love and unity, this song makes light out of such a tragic time in human history. It’s simple, hopeful and, ultimately, something we all desperately need right now.

Listen, I’m a ride-or-die J.Lo fan. She could pretty much recite dialogue from Gigli over a trap beat and I’d still buy it. (Actually, that sounds amazing). But upbeat dance-pop with sultry Latin rhythms is her true calling and this uplifting anthem definitely hits that sweet spot. I’m not sure who produced it or which sessions the song originates from (let me know in the comments below), but “Love Make The World Go Round” reminds me of Love?-era Lopez. Which is a very, very good thing. Do a good deed, download the track and get ready for album nine!

AVERAGE SCORE: 7.7/10
