Surprise! Taylor Swift Wrote Calvin Harris & Rihanna’s “This Is What You Came For”

If you sought out the writing credits for Calvin Harris and Rihanna‘s current summer smash “This Is What You Came For,” you probably caught that the song was co-written by Harris and one Nils Sjöberg. Alas, it turns out Nils isn’t some hot, up-and-coming Norwegian tunesmith, but rather it’s actually Calvin’s ex, Taylor Swift. That’s good. We were worried she wasn’t earning enough songwriting royalties, to be honest.

People confirmed with a Swift rep that the “Style” singer is indeed the co-writer of “This Is What You Came For,” after TMZ initially reported that Taylor first worked the song out on the piano and recorded it on her iPhone, before sending it off to then-boyfriend Calvin to play around with.

The result: “This Is What You Came For” is currently sitting at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100, and is now Harris’ highest-charting US single since his previous pairing with Rihanna in 2011, “We Found Love,” went to #1.

There’s some other drama in the People write-up about Calvin doing an interview a few months back with Ryan Seacrest and saying he couldn’t foresee working with Taylor professionally — a quip that is rumored to have potentially led to their breakup. But who really knows the truth there? Maybe he was just trying to keep Taylor’s “This Is What You Came For” writing credit a secret since, you know, she did use a pen name.

Anyway, let’s see if this revelation has any impact on the song’s chart climb.
