Kid Cudi is quietly one of the busiest dudes in music. He’s constantly churning out new material (of varying levels of quality), dropping in for brief star turns on Kanye albums and landing acting roles. Now, after serving as the band leader on Comedy Bang! Bang! last season, he has nabbed his most high profile TV gig yet with a role on Empire.

He’ll be on season 3 of Fox’s mega-hit as Gram, the foil to Hakeem Lyon (Bryshere “Yazz” Gray). The character is “an independent musician who is a rival to Hakeem” and who happens to be dating Hakeem’s ex, according to EW.

Cudi isn’t the only rapper joining the show for its upcoming season. French Montana has been cast to play a music mogul in the September 21 premiere episode, alongside Birdman.
