Halsey Joins Forces With The Chainsmokers For “Closer”

The Chainsmokers team up with Halsey for new single “Closer” (due July 29) — the third cut from the duo’s debut LP, after Daya-assisted smash “Don’t Let Me Down” and hugely underrated buzz track “Inside Out.” (Surely they’ll find room for Bouquet EP highlight “Roses”?) It’s a smart move by both parties. The alt-pop diva’s fanatical following ensures massive blog and social exposure, while she gets the radio hit currently missing from her discography.

It will be interesting to see how far the track deviates from Halsey’s alt-leaning brand. The 21-year-old punched above her weight chart-wise last year when debut LP, Badlands, landed at number two on the Billboard 200 with an impressive first-week tally of 97,000 copies. However, singles “New Americana” and “Colors” failed to connect at pop radio and a reworked version of “Castle” came and went. Perhaps this is the first step in a sound overhaul?
