Lisa Mitchell first made waves back in 2008 with “Neopolitan Dreams” — a soothing little ditty that falls somewhere between Lenka’s “The Show” and Petite Meller’s “Milk Bath” on the quirky-pop scale. The Australian singer followed it up with gems like “Coin Laundry” and “Bless This Mess,” but has been quiet since the release of her sophomore LP in 2012. She makes a very welcome return today with “The Boys” — a retro-tinged pop anthem that shimmers and broods simultaneously.

“My new album has quite a few songs that are inspired by my childhood,” the 26-year-old writes in a lengthy YouTube comment. “I think I have an obsession with my younger self, pre-music-career. I love remembering who’s faces I cut out of magazines and pinned on my dream-boards and what bands and artists I was listening too… It helps me get back in touch with myself and what I care about, and what I want to do here on planet earth.” That explains the song’s vaguely ’80s feel.

“The Boys” is the lead single from Lisa’s third LP, Warriors (due October 14). Watch the video, which was filmed in her hometown of Albury, below.
