John Newman Confirms Brain Tumor Has Returned

Just a month after releasing his single “Olé,” a pair-up with producer pal Calvin Harris, UK singer John Newman has confirmed that cancerous cells have returned following the removal of a benign brain tumor in 2012.

Reports about Newman’s health began circulating earlier this week. The 26 year old subsequently released the following statement to Digital Spy:

This was going to come out at some point and it’s probably best it’s out in the open now.

I have been monitored constantly since the first time I had the tumour removed. There was always a chance that it could return and it is unfortunate, but it is something I am prepared to get through when the time is right, some point next year.

The medical staff have been absolutely amazing and I know I am in the best of hands.

Nothing will ever stop me from doing the job I love so much, nothing will ever stop me from making music. People shouldn’t worry about me, the prognosis is good and there are so many people in far more serious situations.

I just hope this in some way helps raise awareness for those people and encourages people to be tested and treated as early as possible. I am one of the lucky ones!

Two weeks ago, John chatted with Idolator about the new music he has lying in wait, including a third collaboration with Calvin Harris, following “Olé” and 2014 hit “Blame.”

“I’ve got another Calvin track, and then I’m preparing a single myself for after that,” Newman told us. “I’ve got another collaboration in the works. I’m working on a duet kind of thing, ballady thing at the moment.”

In the meantime, his video for “Olé” premieres tomorrow. Watch a preview below.

The Olé video me and @calvinharris shot in Mexico drops this Friday!
