Despite Fan Theories, Taylor Swift’s Label Head Says A New Taylor Swift Album Isn’t Coming This Fall

After wrapping up her 1989 era earlier this year, Taylor Swift said she’s taking a small break from music. But after Kimye hung her out to dry and she was subsequently dissed by the whole world for the first time in her career, she’s no doubt been plotting her next act of musical vengeance. Astute fans notice that her albums always drop in October/November, and that they’re always two years apart, and so there’s chatter that this fall could be prime time for a 1989 follow-up. But her label head wants you to know that theory is bunk.

A Twitter user asked Scott Borchetta, president and CEO of Big Machine Records, whether her sixth album would be out in October. And he swiftly shut down the idea.

Vulture thinks it’s just an attempt to get everyone off the scent so that any “surprise” Swift release will have maximum impact. And that’s not far-fetched when you add the Apple factor to all this fall timing talk. Apple will most likely be launching its headphone jack-less new phones and possibly revamped streaming platform in September, and they’ll need a hot new music exclusive to help sell the new hardware. And wouldn’t you know, Taylor Swift and Apple are very buddy-buddy.
