The last days of disco and the early rise of hip hop, by way of the Bronx in 1977, are the focus of Aussie auteur Baz Luhrmann‘s Netflix original series The Get Down, which premieres on Friday (August 12). And while the show’s first episode isn’t exactly generating rave reviews, perhaps the music from the soundtrack will lighten the mood?

Christina Aguilera and Nile Rodgers‘ previously announced pair-up “Telepathy” is just one of the tracks that will enhance all the action happening on The Get Down. Naturally it’s a disco track, and quite a dreamy, brass-and-harp-filled one at that.

“I got you, you got me / I know you and you know me,” Xtina sings beautifully amidst a swirling wall of sound that never lets up on the euphoric “Telepathy.” It’s not a bad little number, and it’s quite an upbeat kick after Aguilera’s previous single, “Change.”

The Get Down stars Shameik Moore, Justice Smith, Jaden Smith, Jimmy Smits and Giancarlo Esposito. Christina and Nile’s “Telepathy” is available now to grab from iTunes. Give the song a listen above.
