Natalie Maines Of Dixie Chicks Calls Out Country Radio For Trump Support
The Dixie Chicks can’t help but speak out. Today (August 11), Natalie Maines called out country radio, more than a decade after it first refused to play the landmark country group’s music.
“I get banned for not liking Bush and now Trump can practically put a hit out on Hillary and he’s still all over country radio! Hypocrites!” she tweeted.
A refresher: Back in 2003, Maines said during a concert in London, “Just so you know, we’re on the good side with y’all. We do not want this war, this violence, and we’re ashamed that the president of the United States is from Texas.” Country radio swiftly removed all Dixie Chicks songs from airplay because of that anti-Iraq War statement against George W. Bush.
Another refresher: Earlier this week at a rally, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump claimed that Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton wants to abolish the Second Amendment — the right to bear arms. “[I]f she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do folks. Although, the Second Amendment people, maybe there is, I don’t know,” he said.
While Trump’s team denied that his comments called for violence, even the Secret Service has been made aware of what he said.
Meanwhile, this isn’t even the first time that the Dixie Chicks have made their displeasure toward Trump known. During its ongoing DCX MMXVI Tour, the group has performed “Ready to Run” in front of an animation poking fun at this year’s Republican presidential nominees. Trump’s face appears, though with devil horns drawn on.
