From current hit “Treat You Better” to “Ruin” to “Three Empty Words,” Shawn Mendes has been wearing his heart on his sleeve with the moody new material off sophomore LP Illuminate (out September 23). The fourth track released ahead of the album, “Mercy,” is no exception.
“I can’t take any more, I’m saying, baby, please have mercy on me / take it easy on my heart, even though you don’t mean to hurt me, you keep tearing me apart,” Shawn soulfully laments on “Mercy.”
