Blood Orange Addresses Being Removed From The ‘Guardian Guide’ Cover On Twitter
Blood Orange (a.k.a. Dev Hynes) and the Guardian are not on good terms. Hynes made that fact clear on Twitter yesterday (August 19) when he addressed being taken off the Guardian Guide cover – the publication’s supplemental weekend magazine – for his refusal to talk about topics he felt “reluctant” about.
“Just found out a magazine took me off of their cover because I was ‘reluctant to talk about topics they hoped I would expand on,'” he tweeted. “sorry but if u ask me a question based off another interview and then say ‘elaborate’ that’s not journalism.”
He continued, “sorry I don’t fall into your perception of a Black Lives Matter story or give u weird gossip but I am who I am & my music speaks for itself.”
This isn’t the first time the singer has had a problem with the newspaper. In 2013, he vowed to never speak to the publication again after they ran a piece about a terrible fire in his New York apartment and the crowd-funding campaign that was set up by his girlfriend’s mother as a result.
“I believe in second chances & the writer hey chose for this new article was really good… Anyway, goodbye @guardian,” he said in his last tweet of the series.
