Lorde Responds To Impatient Fan With Cordial Album Update

I know it’s hard for you youngsters out there to understand, but it is completely reasonable for an artist to take, say, four years between albums. The gap between Channel Orange and Blond(e) really wasn’t remarkable. It just feels like an excruciatingly long amount of time when you’re inundated with rumors, updates and teases about projects because of social media. An artist taking a few years between albums is not cause for concern. And definitely not cause to get all entitled and rude — I mean, in the old days, you actually hauled your ass to the store and plunked down some money for the album so if you were gonna be entitled, at least back then you had the literal receipt to back it up.

Which is to say, Lorde is the latest musician to get some bitterness from fans because she’s taking her time to release a new album, and that is wack.

On her latest Instagram post, a follower left the comment: “Do you think we will ever get another album or should we just give up on you as an artist?” This is where we point out that her last album, Pure Heroine, hasn’t even been in the world for three years. Anyway, Lorde noticed the impatient query, and responded with a perfectly cordial update on her sophomore LP.

“give up on me if you want to! I’m an artist, I write a record when I have enough special stories to tell, and it’s all me, every melody every lyric, not some team who just start the machine up every eighteen months like clockwork,” she wrote in a reply comment. “the record is written, we’re in the production stages now. I’ve worked like a dog for a year making this thing great for you guys.”

After that, the once-aggressive fan backtracked.

So, yeah, you’ll get your new Lorde when your new Lorde is damn well ready.
