The Heist’s “Save Madonna”: Watch The Lyric Video For The Material Girl-Worthy Pop Gem

One way to get attention for your latest song is to name it after an already-established pop culture icon. Just ask folks like Taylor Swift (“Tim McGraw”), Kim Carnes (“Bette Davis Eyes”) and The Wanted (“Walks Like Rihanna”). Er, well — maybe skip that last one?

Anyway, on-the-rise Toronto pop-rockers The Heist have gone and done the above with their second single, “Save Madonna.” (Not to be confused, of course, with Robbie Williams and Pet Shop Boys‘ 2006 collaboration, She’s Madonna.”) To go along with the upbeat tune, which includes lyrical and/or musical references to such Madge classics as “Lucky Star,” “Holiday” and “Material Girl,” the quartet have included an adorable lyric video featuring a pair of female hands with multi-colored nails scrawling in an old-school Trapper Keeper.

Needless to say, “Save Madonna” sounds like it’s straight out of the Reagan (first term) era. Watch above, and if you like what you hear, The Heist’s latest was made available for purchase today.
