So, Lady Gaga wound up not performing at last night’s (August 28) MTV Video Music Awards after all. Instead, she and her LG5 collaborators Mark Ronson and Bloodpop (Grimes, Justin Bieber) shared a photo of themselves in the studio with Tame Impala‘s Kevin Parker on Instagram, and noted, “We made a #PERFECTILLUSION,” in reference to Gaga’s forthcoming single “Perfect Illusion.” The song is due for release in September.

This did not, of course, steal any thunder from the VMAs. But with said award show now out of the way, all pop fans’ eyes are on this fall, when Gaga and several other releases are set to arrive.

In the meantime, Gaga joined Parker on stage over the weekend during Tame Impala’s FYF fest gig in Los Angeles. Their collaboration this time? A hug.

Are you looking forward to hearing “Perfect Illusion”?
