Cassie dropped her (great) debut LP in 2006 and has been threatening to release the follow-up ever since. However, it’s not like R&B’s ice queen ever went away. She delivered one of the best singles of 2012 with slinky bop “King Of Hearts” (Beyonce even gave her seal of approval), teamed up with Nicki Minaj for sexy collaboration “The Boys” and dropped a critically-acclaimed mixtape. The “Me & U” diva is now on the brink of a long-overdue comeback with a new single called “Make-Up,” which she announced on the red carpet at last night’s MTV VMAs.

“I did a couple of records… not just a couple, a lot of records with Detail,” Cassie told E! News. “So we have a single coming out called ‘Make-Up,’ which I think the ladies are gonna love.” When’s it coming? “Soon.” Is it about making up with your man or the stuff you put on your face? “Make-up make-up.” (The latter). This is great news. The 30-year-old has always occupied a unique space in R&B with her chilly, minimalist production and indie-bent. Hopefully, Detail helps the singer find her way back to radio and the charts. See Cassie’s interview below.
