An Update On Emeli Sande's Sophomore Album
Emeli Sande's long-awaited sophomore LP is almost finished. Find out more.

At last, Emeli Sande is about to return to her solo career.

Today (September 5) she announced “Hurts,” the debut single off her sophomore album, with a 20-second snippet. Emeli claps throughout, though not as if she wants to get some party started, but as if she wants to convey a sense of urgency.

Emeli’s new music follows her blockbuster 2012 debut Our Version of Events — the biggest selling album of that year, as it went seven times platinum. She had every reason to celebrate her success. Yet, as revealed in this week’s edition of The Sunday Times, her rising career also put some strain on her relationships, like with longtime boyfriend-turned-ex-husband Adam Gouraguine.

“In retrospect, I was like a pressure cooker waiting to pop off,” Emeli says in a press release. “I had to stop and really look at myself and realize who I was. That’s been the biggest lesson for me, learning to feel comfortable in who I am and what I represent and what I stand for.”

Meanwhile, Emeli sings, “Baby, I’m not made of stone,” in “Hurts,” according to The Sunday Times. “Hurts” is out September 16 — see the teaser below.
