Katy Perry Offers To Pay Orlando Shooting Survivor’s Tuition On ‘Ellen’: Watch
Talk shows are dumb. Pop culture is dumb. The world is dumb and pretty much awful. And those three things coalesce quite often! But on rare occasions, those things join to create a moment of non-trash, what some may even call hope. That happened on Ellen when a survivor of the horrific Orlando nightclub shooting got to meet Katy Perry, who offered to pay his film school tuition.
Tony Marrero appeared on the show to discuss his life in the aftermath of the Pulse attack, and told the host how Perry’s Olympics song “Rise” helped inspire him throughout the recovery process. Then he was surprised by Perry herself, and there were lots of tears, and it was sweet.
