Pop Perspective: Gaga's "Perfect Illusion"
Is Mother Monster's lead single off her fifth album a return to form? Idolator editors weigh in.

Lady Gaga‘s “Perfect Illusion” got its live debut last night (September 9) during a secret show at London’s Moth Club.

While reviews of her new single have been mostly positive, some critics have noticed how Gaga’s vocals have been strangely mixed, to somehow sound titanic and thin at the same time. (The pop superstar co-produced “Perfect Illusion” with Mark Ronson, Kevin Parker of Tame Impala and Bloodpop.) That said, this surprise gig was a welcome chance to hear Gaga sing the track in all her glory, her voice as full-throated as can be.

“Perfect Illusion” is off Gaga’s as-yet-untitled fifth album, which also features a duet with Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine. Watch its live debut below.
