The Drop: Billie Marten, Willa & Margaret
Your cheat sheet to New Music Friday featuring Billie Marten, Willa and Margaret.

Margaret seemingly came out of nowhere earlier this year with dancehall-tinged bop “Cool Me Down.” Sounding like Rihanna circa Loud, the catchy track went top 5 in Poland (the diva’s homeland) and was warmly received in Scandinavia. The 25-year-old’s international fanbase should continue to grow with “Elephant.” Once again it’s a charming RiRi knock-off, although no more so than Zara Larsson’s “Ain’t My Fault.” While the sound isn’t entirely original, there’s something about Margaret’s accent combined with the oddball lyrics that is utterly charming.

“You’re my elephant in the room, gotta let it out real soon,” she sings in the chorus. “Cause you’re my elephant, not irrelevant, my elephant in the room.” I’m not sure what it’s all about (a bad boyfriend is my guess) but it’s catchy as hell. The video is equally quirky. A family of elephants — well, people wearing elephant masks — eat peanuts at the dinner table, while Margaret hangs out at some kind of drag race. They all end up clubbing, but things get out of hand and our big-eared hero gets the crap beaten out of him. They do things differently in Poland. Watch up top.
