BANKS Strips Things Back On “To The Hilt”: Listen

BANKS doesn’t seem to be hiding any of her cards on this album cycle, giving listeners a taste of the various elements that are making up her sophomore album ahead of its release later this month. The latest song off The Altar is quiet ballad “To The Hilt.”

For most of the song it’s just a piano and her voice, a far cry from her gloomy, Weeknd-influenced take on pop/R&B. Near the end, some spectral elements briefly augment the arrangement, but this one’s all about the delicate emotions at play. She really excels when she’s rehashing heartbreak, and she’s never sounded more vulnerable.

The Altar is out September 30. Hear the new cut below.
