Tinashe Talks ‘Joyride’ Delay In ‘Nylon’

After months of setbacks and delays, things are finally coming together for Tinashe. The R&B diva’s new single “Company” is a return to form and she landed an impressive feature on GTA’s “All Caught Up,” which drops September 23. She also graces the cover of two magazines this month — Modzik and Nylon. The latter boasts an in-depth conversation with the “2 On” hitmaker about her still-unreleased sophomore LP, which she has been tempted to leak.

“But how is that going to help me?” the 23-year-old ponders in the interview. “It’s just going to come out and then it’s gone, and then I don’t have the support. No one’s going to be booking me for TV performances, [the label is] certainly not going to help me with my next one.” There are other reasons. “The producers would be mad at me because they wouldn’t have gotten paid. If I just put it on SoundCloud, I’m not getting paid, my label isn’t getting paid.” As for her relationship with the label? “It’s the business aspect,” she says. “There’s always going to be a difference in opinion because they’re just looking at things from a different side. And I’m not mad at them for it.”

Another interesting tidbit is the absence of “Player” from the album’s final tracklist. “It wasn’t my decision,” Tinashe says of the awkward Chris Brown collaboration that bombed on the charts. “That’s what people don’t understand.” However, she doesn’t regret it. “But you know, at the end of the day, I still really respect him as an artist. I think he’s really talented. It was always a goal of mine to collaborate with him at some point.” While we wait for Joyride to get an official release date, fall in love with Tee’s new banger below.
