Matt Corby's Gospel-Tinged Gem "Monday"
Aussie singer Matt Corby returns with soulful, gospel-tinged gem "Monday." Listen.

Australian singer/songwriter Matt Corby won an international following with “Brother.” The folk/rock anthem was crowned Song Of The Year at the 2011 ARIA Awards and propelled its parent EP, Into The Flame, to the top of the charts. (The four-song set eventually went six-times platinum). He followed that up with another smash called “Resolution” in 2013, but then went silent. It turns out, the songsmith scrapped his debut LP and went back to the drawing board. His second attempt, Telluric, arrived earlier this year and it was worth the wait.

An eclectic collection of songs that artfully hops between rock, soul and gospel, Telluric lives up to the promise of those early hits and then some. The latest single, “Empires Attraction,” is as good an introduction as any into Matt’s hazy ’70s-inspired soundscape. “No one is going to save you,” he says of the song. “Superman is not a real concept. There’s no such thing. The whole idea that we as a people need that kind of savior is fucked up. If we can figure out how to work together then we are the embodiment of salvation for our entire planet.”

We’re excited to premiere the video, which is comprised of vintage news footage, below.
