Pop Perspective: The Chainsmokers' "Closer"
We rate and review The Chainsmokers & Halsey's new smash hit "Closer."

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. That seems to be the mantra guiding The Chainsmokers’ new single. “All We Know” picks up where “Closer” left off — with a cute boy/girl exchange (Phoebe Ryan steps in for Halsey) unfolding against a mellow electronic background. However, the tone is softer and more introspective this time around. Our protagonists sing about matters of the heart, while a litany of acoustic elements are brought into the soundscape. As for their signature drop? Don’t worry. Andrew and Alex never disappoint on that front.

It’s almost as if The Chainsmokers took “Closer” and refined it. (I definitely prefer this song). That might be a little safe, but it’s also very smart. Their summer smash is still sitting pretty at number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and the success of interchangeable downtempo dance anthems like “Cold Water” and “Let Me Love You” proves that music fans are gravitating to the familiar in 2016. Don’t be surprised if the duo lands their fourth consecutive top 10 hit with “All We know.” Listen below.
