Pop Perspective: Lady Gaga's "Perfect Illusion"
Is Lady Gaga's "Perfect Illusion" a return to form? We rate and review the single.

It’s official! Those rumors about Lady Gaga performing at Super Bowl LI are 100 percent true. “It’s not an illusion,” the pop star wrote on Instagram. “The rumors are true. This year the SUPER BOWL goes GAGA!” It’s an interesting choice. Mother Monster would have been a no-brainer in 2011 at the height of her popularity, but she hasn’t had a top 10 hit in three years. Furthermore, the first taste of album number five — “Perfect Illusion” — fell out of the top 40 in its second week on the charts.

Time will tell if she can turn things around with Joanne, which drops on October 21. (No doubt, Gaga is putting the finishing touches to her next single at this very moment). Anyway, back to Super Bowl. Is it too early to speculate on special guests? The obvious choice is bringing out Beyonce for the first live renditions of “Telephone” and “Video Phone,” but she would probably break the internet by teaming up with Madonna for a “Perfect Illusion”/”Papa Don’t Preach” mash-up. See her announcement below.
