Words don’t fail synth-pop duo Capital Cities on their new single — it’s just that, as the lyrics go, “words won’t do it justice.” Cue up the simple but effectively catchy chorus to “Vowels,” the pair’s first release since breaking through in 2013 with Top 10 hit “Safe And Sound” and subsequent singles like “Kangaroo Court.”

“Vowels” makes up for Ryan Merchant and Sebu Simonian‘s minimal use of actual words in the lyrics with funky guitar licks and punctuated brass. Is the song gimmicky? Sure. But it’s also good fun.

As mentioned earlier this month, the song will appear on both a forthcoming EP from the pair and the soundtrack to the FIFA 17 video game.

Capital Cities will support their new EP by hitting the road for a string of seven US tour dates, beginning November 1 at Washington DC’s The 9:30 Club and wrapping November 23 at L.A.’s Fonda Theatre.
