Drake Leads AMAs With Record-Breaking 13 Nominations

Awards shows are gross and stupid. Music awards shows are probably the stupidest of them all. And within that subset, the American Music Awards are pretty much the bottom of the barrel, only out-stupided by the garbage heap that is the Billboard Music Awards. (Fun Fact: Infallible and all-neutral chart gatekeeper Billboard determines the AMA nominees but still feels the need to have their own completely redundant awards because branding!). Perhaps fittingly, Drake and his fuzzy math juggernaut Views has just landed the most American Music Awards nominations in history.

Drake leads the 2016 AMAs field with 13 nods, including Artist of the Year, Favorite Male Artist, Favorite Album, Favorite Rap Artist and Favorite Rap Song. His 13 looks breaks Michael Jackson‘s previous mark of 11, set in 1984, because this is the world we live in, a world where sexual assault proponent Donald Trump is gonna be president and Drake is spoken of in the same breath as MJ. (Fun Fact: The AMAs, like the president, are voted on by The People!) Rihanna is next in line with seven nominations.

The American Music Awards air live on November 20 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. See the full list of nominees below.
