Niall Horan Drops Solo Single "This Town"
Niall Horan goes solo with moving ballad "This Town." Listen to 1D crooner's single.

Simon Cowell threw a little shade at Niall Horan in the tabloids yesterday (October 9) when the One Direction crooner’s first solo effort, “This Town,” failed to debut at number 1 in the UK. Why? He’s mad the 23-year-old signed with Capitol instead of his own Syco label. “He probably would have had a number 1 single if he’d stayed with me,” the X Factor judge bragged. “But you know who does have a number 1 this week? James Arthur. Very pleased he’s back with us with a fantastic record.” (He’s referring to the show’s 2012 winner, who has a huge hit on his hands with “Say You Won’t Let Go”).

It should be noted that Niall isn’t the first member of One Direction to (politely) beef with Simon. Zayn Malik found himself in a similar position after complaining about a lack of creative freedom within the band. “As much as I was in that band, and I loved everything that we did, that’s not music that I would listen to,” he told The Fader. His former mentor’s reaction? “It is a bit rude to the people who wrote all the hits with them,” Simon chided. And to the other band members. I mean, they all wrote a lot of the stuff.”
