“Uptown Funk” Is The 13th Song To Be Certified Diamond

A few weeks ago, Carly Rae Jepsen‘s “Call Me Maybe” was officially certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), meaning it sold 10 million copies. And now Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars‘ “Uptown Funk” has joined the extremely exclusive club, becoming the 13th song ever to reach Diamond status. And the single did it in under two years (it was released November 2014), which is astounding. To put that into perspective, “Call Me Maybe” was humongous in a way we hadn’t seen since the monoculture was still a thing, for an entire year…and it still took more than four years for that song to go Diamond.

Granted, as you can see from the full list below, as the industry becomes more and more dependent on streaming, we’re likely to see the RIAA handing out more and more of these certifications, and faster. But it’s still a monumental feat.
