Shakira Joins Forces With Latin Superstar Maluma On “Chantaje”
Well, that didn’t long! In early September Shakira revealed that she was working on new music with fellow Colombian pop star Maluma. “Prepare yourself for what we’re cooking up in the studio,” is a rough translation of the caption she used for a selfie with the frequently-shirtless crooner on Instagram. He then posted a couple of studio pics to get fans really excited. Approximately six weeks have passed and the collaboration now has a title — “Chantaje” (Spanish for “Blackmail”) — and a release date. This Friday, to be exact.
The woman with the truthful hips has released more than her fair share of high profile collaborations (Beyonce duet “Beautiful Liar” and Rihanna-assisted bop “Can’t Remember To Forget You,” for starters), so why is this such a big deal? Well, Maluma is currently the hottest name in Latin pop. He’s generating the kind of heat Ricky Martin and Enrique Iglesias did before crossing over and already has a massive US following. This is the Spanish-language equivalent of Beyonce and Justin Bieber joining forces. Excitingly, they are rumored to be working on an English version of the song. We’ll know more later this week.
