Major Lazer To Release New Music In January, Says Diplo
Looks like Diplo‘s band Major Lazer will kick off 2017 with brand new music. Over the weekend, Diplo teased an unreleased song featuring PARTYNEXTDOOR on Snapchat. When a fan asked about it, he broke the news: “New major lazer comes out in January.” He didn’t specify whether to expect a new song or an album.
Diplo has had a terrific 2016, thanks to hits like “Where Are Ü Now” and “Lean On.” (Those songs featured “Cold Water” vocalists Justin Bieber and MØ, respectively.) This was Diplo doubling down on his own projects, from Major Lazer to Jack Ü with Skrillex.
“When we put out a song with Beyoncé, cool, we’ll get a fee, we’ll get some [publishing] splits, but Beyoncé is going to make a billion dollars touring it,” Diplo told Billboard in May. “If I make a song and it’s my song, like ‘Lean On,’ we’re going to make money off the synchs, the Spotify and we get to headline festivals on it. That’s the model I want to explore.”
