Life After “Geronimo”: Sheppard Returns With Catchy Jam “We Belong”
Sheppard caught lightning in a bottle with 2014 single, “Geronimo.” The hook-filled anthem shot straight to number one in their native Australia — going quintuple platinum in the process. However, it didn’t take long to realize they had a global smash on their hands when the song conquered conquered Europe. The six-piece pop outfit then turned their attention to the US and found themselves with a radio hit. “Geronimo” reached number 53 on the Billboard Hot 100 and eventually sold platinum, which isn’t too shabby for a song recorded in suburban Brisbane.
After promoting their debut LP, Bombs Away, with a support slot on Meghan Trainor’s That Bass Tour, the band got to work on their sophomore album. And it sounds like they have expanded their sonic horizons, if lead single “We Belong” is any indication. Sure, it’s still jam-packed with ridiculously catchy vocal hooks and boasts a sing-along chorus, but this finds Sheppard exploring ’80s synth-funk with enough modern flourishes to avoid sounding dated. All in all, it sounds like another huge hit. Listen below.
