Beyonce made a surprise appearance at last night’s (November 3) CMA Awards and promptly stole the show with a knee-slapping collab with the Dixie Chicks. The performance was a testament to music’s changing landscape, a place where artists are supposedly no longer prisoners of genre, and a nod to country’s black roots. It was always going to ruffle some feathers and, sure enough, the racists soon came out to play on social media. Unfortunately, the Country Music Association dealt with this by removing all trace of Bey from their Facebook and Twitter accounts.

It didn’t take long for them to rectify the situation (an apology/explanation would have been nice), but it underlines how radical Beyonce’s performance was. Her mere presence at the event was an affront to some viewers, which is why it should be praised, championed and remembered — not swept under the rug to save a little embarrassment. On the bright side, the average, non-racist obviously observer liked what they saw. “Daddy Lessons” is now top 20 on iTunes and fans are requesting it at country radio stations. That’s got to be worth a tweet?
