Lady Gaga, Pink, Sia and Fifth Harmony‘s Normani Kordei are among the 3.4 million people who signed a Change.org petition to deny Donald Trump the U.S. presidency. “If you feel scared about the current state of American politics and Whitehouse [sic] sign this petition,” Gaga said on Twitter.

This act of protest addresses the electoral college in particular, or 538 electors of various states across the country, saying that Trump is “unfit” to be president. “On December 19, the Electors of the Electoral College will cast their ballots,” the petition argues.” If they all vote the way their states voted, Donald Trump will win. However, they can vote for Hillary Clinton if they choose. Even in states where that is not allowed, their vote would still be counted, they would simply pay a small fine – which we can be sure Clinton supporters will be glad to pay!”

As Vox points out, this Change.org petition isn’t wrong, per say. Technically, Tuesday’s election only determined which electors would represent which state. (For example, since Trump won Alaska, then the Republican politicians he selected will be Alaska’s electors.) But the chances of those electors voting against their party seems highly unlikely. Among other reasons, only nine electors over the past 100 years have voted against their state’s choice.
