MUNA Return With Synth-Pop Gem “I Know A Place”: Listen

MUNA are currently gearing up for the release of their highly-anticipated debut album About U, but for now, the band has unveiled a new track “I Know A Place” to give people a little taste of what’s in store.

A dreamy, synth-pop anthem, the song is a fervent reminder that safe spaces will endure, particularly for the LGBTQ community. “If you want to go out dancing, I know a place/ I know a place we can go/ Where everyone’s gonna lay down their weapon,” frontwoman Katie Gavin sings over the soaring, ’80s-tinged melody. It’s a relentlessly uplifting gem of a record and one that is desperately needed during this period in human history.

“‘I Know A Place’ was never supposed to be a funeral hymn,” explains Gavin to TIME, who premiered the track. “It was meant to be a work song, like Yoko Ono’s full-page ad in the New York Times that proclaimed, ‘War Is Over!’ in December of 1969, at the height of the Vietnam War. We wrote our song to be the voice in your head that tells you to celebrate peace during wartime, because our battle is only just beginning, and one day our war really will be over.”
