Chance the Rapper helped President Obama sing "Jingle Bells" at the White House Christmas tree lighting.

Chance the Rapper returned to Saturday Night Live for the second time to perform its season 42 finale last night (December 17). The self-proclaimed Kanye West protege rapped “Finish Line/Drown” and “Same Drugs,” two of the more touching cuts off this year’s gospel-inflected project Coloring Book.

During the former, after bringing out featured artist and friend Noname to the stage, Chance basked in how one of his backup singers sang “Jesus, rescue me,” turning 30 Rockefeller Center into church.  “I like it when you say his name on network TV like that,” he said, as if it was an act of rebellion.

2016 has been a banner year for Chance: He just scored seven Grammy nominations for Coloring Book — the first time that an artist has been recognized for a free, streaming-only project. Earlier this year, Coloring Book also became the first streaming-only project to chart on the Billboard 200.
