Pop Perspective: Jason Derulo's "If It Ain't Love"
Jason Derulo's new single is the latest to get dragged under the Idolator microscope.

EDIT: The correct spelling of the song appears to be “Swa Lah.”

January is typically a quiet time for new music, but artists are doing things differently in 2017. Jason Derulo joins Ed Sheeran, Ariana Grande, The Chainsmokers and Iggy Azalea as one of the many pop stars hoping to ring in the new year with an early hit. “My favorite thing I did all year… I have to say it’s this brand new single that I’m about to put out,” the 27-year-old announced on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve. “It’s called ‘Swalla.’ It features Nicki Minaj and it features Ty Dolla $ign.”

“I feel like it’s a record we need,” he continued. “It’s one of those ones that’s going to get us up and dancing.” The track, which was produced by Ricky Reed and co-written by Reed, Jacob Kasher and LunchMoney Lewis, will be the first taste of Jason’s 5th studio LP. After a fairly quiet 2016 (he did release a slept-on best of called LP Platinum Hits as well as promo single, “Kiss The Sky”), it will be good to have the hitmaker back on the radio. Watch the “Want To Want Me” singer announce his new star-studded collaboration below.
