Mariah Carey Was “Mortified” During Her NYE Performance

It’s January 4 and we’re still talking about Mariah Carey‘s botched New Year’s Eve performance, so 2017 is off to a truly thrilling start. Shortly after the incident, Carey brushed it off on social media saying “shit happens” alongside a GIF, but now the diva has spoken to Entertainment Weekly about the messy live appearance.

“All I can say is Dick Clark was an incredible person and I was lucky enough to work with him when I first started in the music business. I’m of the opinion that Dick Clark would not have let an artist go through that and he would have been as mortified as I was in real time,” she told EW. “It’s not going to stop me from doing a live event in the future. But it will make me less trusting of using anyone outside of my own team.”

Carey’s Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve gig was apparently plagued by problems with her in-ear monitors to the point where she couldn’t even lip-synch and just stopped performing altogether during the live broadcast. The next day, her team sparred with Dick Clark Productions over who was responsible for the technical difficulties.

Perhaps it was all just JLo’s ultimate revenge.
