Dear Mariah, From Tommy
Label exec and ex-husband Tommy Mottola gives her some tough love after her NYE debacle.

Mariah Carey is kicking off the New Year with a break from “from media moments, social media moments,” in light of what happened on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.

“Although I am going to fulfill my professional obligations, this is an important time for me to finally take a moment for myself and to deal with my loved ones and to prepare for my upcoming tour in March,” she says in an audio statement. “I can’t wait to sing for you again.”

This is Mariah addressing Lambs directly, sounding as doting to them as always. But she also didn’t mince words when talking Dick Clark Productions — the first time she has discussed her disastrous Rockin’ Eve performance at length, after a brief statement to Entertainment Weekly.

“It’s not practical for a singer to sing live and be able to hear themselves properly in the middle of Times Square with all the noise, in the freezing cold, the smoke from the smoke machines, thousands of people celebrating, especially when their ear monitors were not working at all,” Carey said. “Listen, guys. They foiled me. Thus, it turned into an opportunity to humiliate me and all those who were excited to ring in the New Year with me.”

Mariah’s statement echos what her manager, Stella Bulochnikov, said immediately after the incident: “I asked him why would they want to run a performance with mechanical glitches unless they just want eyeballs at any expense.” (Dick Clark Productions called that accusation “defamatory, outrageous and frankly absurd.”)
