George Michael And David Bowie (Again) To Be Honored At 2017 Brit Awards

You may recall Lorde performing a show-stopping rendition of David Bowie‘s “Life On Mars?” at last year’s Brit Awards, just over a month after the passing of the Thin White Duke — and mere days after Lady Gaga‘s lesser-acclaimed tribute on these shores, at the Grammys. It turns out the late music legend will be honored once more at the London-based award show, during this year’s ceremony in February.

“After so many huge losses last year the organisers thought it was only fitting that they paid tribute properly,” a source told The Sun, per NME. “The focus is purely on home-grown stars, specifically David Bowie, George Michael and George Martin, who have all won BRITs in the past. It has not been decided yet what form the tribute will take but it’s going to be a tearjerker. There won’t be a dry eye in the room.”

Martin, of course, was the Beatles‘ producer — he died last March at 90 — and pop icon Michael passed away just weeks ago, on Christmas Day, at the age of 53.

Over their years in the spotlight, Bowie and Michael shared many stages together, including at Live Aid in 1985 (pictured above) and at the all-star 1992 Freddie Mercury tribute concert staged at London’s Wembley Arena.
