Michael Jackson is the subject of Lifetime’s next biopic. Michael Jackson: Searching for Neverland will star Navi, an impersonator who actually worked with Michael as a decoy to attract paparazzi. Suzanne de Passe, who produced the 1992 ABC miniseries The Jacksons: An American Dream, will be the executive producer.

The film’s source material is Remember the Time: Protecting Michael Jackson in His Final Days, a 2014 book by two of Michael’s former bodyguards, Bill Whitfield and Javon Beard. They reveal how they once called Joe Jackson for backup because brother Randy drove an SUV through Michael’s gate, demanding that Michael pay him. They talk of how, in case Michael owed any money, they towed two Oscars for Gone of the Wind that he bought for $1.5 million — that’s how broke the King of Pop was back then. But they also laugh over how Michael insisted on having spray bottle butter and hot sauce for popcorn every time he went to see a movie at a theater.

Of course, Lifetime hasn’t exactly been consistent with its biopics, whether the network is portraying Anna Nicole SmithWhitney Houston or Aaliyah. Its next film, Britney Ever After, is not endorsed whatsoever by Britney Spears.
