There’s A College Course On Kanye West & Kanye Will Love The Title

Students at Washington University can now take a class on Kanye West. And while it’s not the first college course to focus on the superstar, considering his recent endorsement of and meeting with the bald oligarch, it’s the most well-timed. And West will no doubt approve of the title: “Politics of Kanye West: Black Genius and Sonic Aesthetics.”

The St. Louis school is offering the course to 75 students (there’s a waiting list), and Dr. Jeffrey McCune, an associate professor in the African and African-American Studies and the Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies departments, will teach it, according to the Post-Dispatch.

“I always wanted to teach a course looking at black genius and the impossibility of black genius for the American public,” McCune told the paper. “We’re always thought of as maybe being articulate or smart but not really genius.”

Some lecture topics include: “Who is Kanye West and Why is He in the Flashing Lights?,” “Touch the Sky, When the Aspirant Turns Genius,” “I Love Kanye, or How Critique Slips Into Hate” and a full section on “The Swift Moment.” And hopefully an entire essay test dedicated to his Twitter presence.
