If there’s one silver lining about Donald Trvmp losing his way to the top office of the government, it’s that it has sparked a wave of activism and protest. Organizations like the ACLU saw record increases in donations after the election, and millions of people nationwide will be marching in support of women’s rights the day after the orange king is sworn in. The pop world has not shied away from all this, with artists like Beyoncé and Frank Ocean finding their own ways to reflect the vigilance required of the oppositional movements right now. Tegan And Sara, longtime LGBTQ activists, held an event Wednesday (January 18) supporting equal rights for LGBTQ women and girls.

The twin pop duo launched the Tegan and Sara Foundation at the end of last year, and the Hollywood event — one of the org’s first big endeavors — promoted equality in “economic status, health and representation” for the LGBTQ community. Oregon Governor Kate Brown was one of the speakers, and Tegan And Sara also recounted their coming-out story and how it shaped their fight for equality, according to Billboard.
